Its that time of year again and this time Im not talking about the fast-approaching Christmas holiday.
Instead Im excited to chat about the recent big announcement of what color will set the trend for whats to come in fashion, decor, and print over the coming year. Every December the highly-anticipated hue is debuted and its amazing to watch and see how it will adapt and change the design world. The 2014 Pantone Color of the Year was just announced late last week and the honor goes to captivating, magical, enigmatic purple color of Radiant Orchid.
Can we say gorgeous
Just as strong as Radiant Orchid is, the colors of years past have not been a disappointment. Each color has made such a statement throughout the design field. For me last years hue of Emerald was also a bit of a surprise as well, yet shades of green ended up dominating the design world.
The chosen color of the year not only reflects trends that are seen and trends that are to come, but the color also is a symbol of whats happening throughout society. While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination, said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. Radiant Orchid is a smart choice for the year to come. An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in todays society.
I think this years color, Radiant Orchid, is incredible! And hello there do you see a slight resemblance with the radiant orchid and the plum hue of my blog???
I was a bit taken-back and surprised by the color selection (I actually thought it would be something in the blue family), but I love the beauty and daintiness of orchids and I think this new hot hue is so pretty and elegant. Its a hue that used in small doses can be subtle, yet strong. It also can be paired with many great colors like orange, green, yellow, and all shades of blue. Its a sophisticated color that is eye-catching, yet serene and exudes warmth and relaxation.

Spruce up interior spaces by incorporating this eye-catching hue in paint, accent pieces and accessories. As adaptable as it is beautiful, Radiant Orchid complements olive and deeper hunter greens, and offers a gorgeous combination when paired with turquoise, teal and even light yellows.
Likewise, the vibrant color is sure to liven up neutrals including gray, beige and taupe. Uplifting and bold without being overpowering, Radiant Orchid reenergizes almost any color palette and provides a unifying element for diverse spaces.

Ever wonder how the Color of the Year is chosen?
The color of the year selection requires careful consideration and, to arrive at the selection, Pantone quite literally combs the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.
