Favorite Tool: Kreg Holiday Gift Guide

Calling all DIYers, Wood Lovers, & Furniture-making Wannabes!

The Kreg Tool Holiday Gift Guide is out and its something you WONT WANT TO MISS

Looking back upon the year, I really have come out of my building shell. I still have A LOT to learn, but my inventory of real tools for woodworking has grown immensely and I am definitely getting more comfortable with using various tools that used to have me running in the opposite direction.

Hands down, my favorite tool this year has been the Kreg Jig. Even though its the mini, entry level version that I got at haven, I love what you can create with it. My most recent creation was the wood spice holders that I made for the inside of my kitchen cabinet.

Kreg Tool heard my shouts of happiness about their product and since meeting the Kreg team at Haven + trying out quite a few of their products, they recently reached out to me about their new Holiday Gift Guide.

The amazing folks over at Kreg Tool Company have come out with a great Gift Guide this holiday season featuring their creatively innovative tools to truly help make building easier. If you have a DIYer or Woodworker in the family, or if youve ever wanted to make furniture large and small Kreg tools are a must!

Click on the image (or this link) below to view the Gift Guide

Did you check it out? Whats on your (or your DIY lovers) wish list?

My favorite Kreg tools that are on my Christmas List for this year are the Crown Pro (to make crown moulding cutting easier) and the Rip Cut (to make sheet cuts easier using a circular saw). Both I saw at Haven and both are awesome tools!

And if you want to check out my recently made wood spice racks, click here for the plans

Ill be off spending the day with my family tomorrow, but I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you stuff your bellies full of turkey and mashed potatoes (2 of my favorites). Ill be back on Friday with a HUGE announcement that all you crafty people will love. In the meantime, I highly recommend you head on over to Kreg to check out all their cool tools.

Bellevue Hill Penthouse in Australia Offering Striking Views of the Sydney Harbor

Share on Facebook Tweet Comment Approached by a bachelor who had just acquired a penthouse occupying the entire top floor of a 1940′s building, Rolf Ockert Design were faced with a challenge of delivering a serious design makeover. With striking views of the Sydney Harbor, the new crib had to take advantage of its privileged location. A former existing wall of the terrace was hence completely removed and replaced with a glazed extension, ensuring an unobstructed panoramic perspective.

Tall ceilings define the interiors, which exhibit elegance and an overall feeling of relaxation: “Several existing internal walls were removed to make the Kitchen/Living area as generous as possible. An existing widening in the corridor was integrated in the living zone as a bar area for the wine loving client. The resulting sequence of spaces, starting from the entry, guided by the soft ‘flowing’ veneer clad spine wall, results in an apparent spatial generosity beyond its actual square meterage“, explained the architects.  Wood was employed throughout, soothing the transition between spaces.

HUGE Silhouette SALE November 28December 8; VISIT www.sasinteriors.net for details + promo code

What is a Silhouette?

ASilhouetteis an digital cutting tool. Similar to a home printer, it plugs into your PC or Mac with a simple USB cable. Instead of printing, it uses a small blade to cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric, magnet sheets, heat transfer, and more up to 10 feet long. The machine also boasts a quiet motor and the ability to register and cut printed materials. Silhouette has 2 different models, the CAMEO and the Portrait. You can also purchase downloadable fonts and graphics for an additional, nominal fee.

Now that you have all the information to purchase your new machine, which you will LOVE by the way, I want to show you what I just created with my new Silhouette Cameo!

For my first project using my Silhouette, I wanted to start out slow + simple. Isnt that the best way? I will say, I was pleasantly surprised how easy the machine was to set up and the instructions were very easy to follow. I only ran in to one snag along the way and that is when I went to cut my vinyl sheet. After playing around with the settings, I realized I could adjust the cutting area to fit my paper size exactly. A few minutes later, I was off and creating!

Let me show you how I created this beautiful Let there be Peace on Earth sign

'Let There Be Peace On Earth' Christmas sign created using a Silhouette. Full tutorial on the blog, www.sasinteriors.net

I painted this old piece of wood, which is about 12 x 18, a deep red color perfect for the Christmas season. Once the paint was dried, the surface was ready for some vinyl!

After setting up my machine, I chose the words Let There Be Peace on Earth to adorn my sign surface. Let, there, be, on are the Channel font and the words Peace and Earth are the Champagnes & Limousines font. Both are fonts that I already had on my computer, so I didnt have to purchase or download anything. In addition to the words, I also wanted to add some fun circles around, and simply used the circle shape and copied them over and over so theyd all be the same size.

As for the size of the fonts, they are around 4 high and that height I just determined by eye in knowing how large my sign is. Again, the Silhouette software is very easy to figure out.

Once my words were set, I adjusted them to fit the size of my paper and clicked the CUT button.

Once the vinyl was cut, the sign was ready to dress. The letters easily came off the vinyl sheets and I was able to adhere them to the sign surface. About 10-15 minutes later the sign was complete. So easy! I will tell you, I made a similar sign for my sons room (which I never shared on the blog) and it literally took hours and days. This machine would have made my life SOOO much easier.

Stylish and Dramatic Apartment in Berlin Designed by Peter Fehrentz

Share on Facebook Tweet Comment The best thing about being a designer is that you end up garnishing your home freely, without constraints of any kind. Peter Fehrentz, owner of a 60 square meters apartment in Schöneberg, an up-and-coming, fashionable and artistic neighborhood in west Berlin, has recently completed the interior of it. Berlin is a city full of excitement and contrasts, "lively, complex, multicultural, and (…) a source of inspiration", as the designer himself describes it. Despite the fact that Fehrentz lived for several years in Hamburg, he was spending quite some time in the capital. The decision to move here permanently came naturally.

Share on Facebook Tweet Comment Bringing more of his creative sensibility to his home, the German designer pondered colour choices and tested various design elements until he hit the right combination of ideas. The flat (located in the side wing of a dull unit lacking any architectural detailing), became not only his home (a very personal place, as the designer explains) but also his workplace, a showroom for his future clients. Quite sophisticated, due to the dark palette of colours, the flat exudes an “artistic, almost dramatic atmosphere, reminiscent of the Flemish Old Masters."
